Apple production in Hama province estimates at 22,000 tons for current season

Hama, SANA- Hama Agriculture Directorate said that the province’s production of apple crop for the current agricultural season is expected to reach 22,338 tons.

Head of the Planning and International Cooperation Department at the Directorate, Eng. Mwafak Al-Najjar told SANA that apple trees are planted over an area of 27,285 dunums, including 3034 irrigated dunums, which are estimated to produce 3112 tons of apple and 24,251 rainfed dunums, which are estimated to produce 19,226 tons of apple.

The number of the apple trees planted in the province reached 878,831, among them 769,048 fruitful trees.

 Al-Najjar added that cultivation of apple trees concentrated in the western parts of the province, mainly Masyaf, Bishnin, Barshin, Tin al-Sabil, Harmel, Bshawi and many other areas, asserting that apple cultivation constitutes a basic source for the locals’ livelihood.
